The Library is hosting a professional photographer to take headshots to add to resumes or online portfolios.  A volunteer is needed to help check registrants in for their appointment.  There are two one hour sessions, sign up for both or just one.

Volunteer to help set up chairs and then greet and provide light ushering duties for this special panel discussion to celebrate Women's History Month.  Four local women business owners share their journeys, lessons learned, and insights on building values driven sustainable businessess that strengthen our communities. During the panel discussion volunteers may help hand the microphone to patrons who have questions, then help stack the chairs at the end.

Wrapping up Asian American/Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Month Portland Taiko brings a loud, interactive performance of the art of Japanese Drumming.  Volunteers will help greet, count and usher for the performance.  If physically able, will help put away chairs.  Please note, Taiko is very loud, if loud noises are difficult for you, this is not the volunteer event for you.  

Simple science is a hands on mini science event held once a month alternating between the two libraries. Volunteers help the STEM librarian with setting up the science activity tables, helping patrons experience the hands on science, and then staying to clean up and put away the supplies.  These events typically attract older toddlers to about grade 3, are very popular, and can be somewhat chaotic and loud. Some parents are more engaged then others so volunteers must be proactive in looking for opportunities to help little learners who may not understand the concept and need help accomplishing the hands on task. Contact Volunteer office for link.  Secret Science Garden has a focus on seeds, soil, and making your own tiny garden through a series of crafts and activities. 

Help our patrons build big at the library!  A variety of legos will be scattered about encouraging creativity, engineering, and play!  You'll be there to help patrons find the parts they need, encourage their builds, and keep a watchful eye out for possible lego swallowing!  Also you'll keep the lego supplies as accessbile as possible by keeping the piles stocked, unbuilding things people have left, restocking the piles, and keeping trash picked up.  You'll help set up and of course help clean up at the end.

Help set up the room, greet/count our patrons, and be on hand to help seat late comers.  Patrons are invited to sign up to read their own poetry or just come listen.  If time allows poetry games may be played.  At the end you'll help clean up the room (stack the chairs).  

Help celebrate National Library Week with a special community story time celebrating the City of Hillsboro Government 150th Anniversary.  This story time will celebrate the people and departments that help our city thrive. Volunteers will assist in setting up the room, greeting patrons, ushering, and helping to put the chairs away at the end.

It's holiday/school break time!  Volunteers help keep out of school kids engaged by hosting activity tables, games, crafts and interactive learning experiences.  Volunteers help set up the activities/room, host the activity/game/craft then help clean up at the end of the event.  Excellent customer service skills, patience, and an enthusiastic engaging personality required to bring smiles to faces, and busy minds occupied!  The Cat in the Box PLIX presents program is a guest STEM program from the MIT Public Library Innovation Exchange.  Attendees will get "certified" in materials science through a series of hands on crafts and experiments!  

This storytime is always focused on a science theme including a science based activity related to the story.  Volunteers assist with set up, and are proactive in assisting young attendees with the hands on science portion of the activity. Volunteers will assist with clean up afterwards. Volunteers should be prepared for a high degree of interaction, have patience, and the ability to know when to provide help to the little learners. All will be attending with an adult, but some adults are more engaged than others. Volunteers will support storyteller by making sure supplies are available and being safely used, and anticipating the needs to keep the activity components ready to go at all times.  Discovery Storytime alternates with Simple Science monthly alternating between both libraries. 

Be the first friendly face patrons see as they enter Brookwood Library. Volunteers welcome each patron as they enter and thank them as they leave.  You'll help with way finding, assist staff in occasional simple projects that can be done at the desk, and answer patron questions about library services.  Greeters share two hours per shift between hours of 10 AM-6 PM anytime library is open (occasional evening shift for an after hours event).  

Help make the magic of story time happen!  Helpers assist with setting up the story space, sometimes prepping make and take materials a head of time (by arrangement), welcoming patrons in the room, helping them find a place to sit, then helping the story teller engage the guests in the story!  You'll do the hand gestures, sing the songs, act things out right along with the librarian leading the story time.  You'll help with the make and take activity then help say goodbye to patrons and help clean up the space.

An evening story time designed to be a bit more calming!  Feel free to dress in your favorite PJ's and slippers!  The Librarian will tell a quiet story and have a very calming activity or simple craft sometimes, but more often this storytime is designed to be calming and not super active.  Most attendees are toddler to Kindergarten.  This storytime alternates with our International language storytimes at Brookwood Library, and is usually held twice per month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights.

Story time helpers assist our story time librarians by helping to set up the room (some lifting and moving of chairs and rolling tables), setting up the activities (usually simple hands on crafts) helping to keep the audience engaged, and assisting with clean up afterwards.  You'll keep count of the attendees, help them settle in, assist with name tags, and generally be another set of eyes and ears in the room.  The extent to which the story teller wants you to participate during the story varies.  Some enjoy having you also acting out the story as they tell it, others just have you sit with the audience or remain toward the back to watch for "escapees" and to help if people need to leave the room.  This storytime is geared toward 3-5 year olds.
