Looking for a fun and rewarding way to make a difference this summer? Join Hillsboro Parks & Recreation as an Outpost Program Volunteer and help create safe, welcoming, and engaging experiences for local youth and families.

The Outpost Program provides free summer lunch and enrichment activities for children and teens ages 0–17. Volunteers play an important role in helping staff create positive experiences through games, crafts, science and nature activities, reading adventures, field games, and special events.

As an Outpost Program Volunteer, you may assist with:

• Leading or helping facilitate recreational activities and games
• Supporting arts, crafts, and hands-on learning opportunities
• Encouraging participation and helping create an inclusive environment
• Assisting with activity setup, cleanup, and organization
• Helping staff provide a safe and welcoming space for participants
• Building positive connections with youth and families in the community

Preferred Qualifications:

Support youth participants during the summer Youth Track Meet program by helping create a positive, organized, and encouraging environment for children and families. Hillsboro’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. 


This 8-hour introductory course is offered in two, four-hour classes and is mostly in a classroom setting. This introductory course is open to anyone interested in learning how they can prepare for an emergency as well as those interested in becoming part of the Community Emergency Response Team.

Join us for a day of family fun and community spirit at the SHARC Family Triathlon! This non-competitive event features swimming in the outdoor pool at SHARC, biking through the nearby neighborhood, and running around Shute Park. As a volunteer, you will play an important role in creating a positive experience by supporting and encouraging participants as they swim, bike, and run their way to the finish line.

 

Volunteer Roles

Event Setup and Cleanup: Help prepare the event space before the triathlon and assist with restoring the area afterward. Registration Check-In: Welcome participants and assist with the public-facing registration process. Transition Area Support: Guide participants safely as they move between the swimming, biking, and running segments. Participant Support: Provide directions, information, and encouragement throughout the course.

Who Can Volunteer

Teens (ages 14–17) without a parent or guardian present Adults (18+) Older adults (62+)

Requirements

Volunteers should be comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Standing for the majority of the event is required. Some light lifting may be necessary.
