Who We Are
Looking to learn more about law enforcement?
Do you want to serve your community in a unique way?
Are you between the ages of 15-20 years old?
If you answered yes to these questions, volunteering as a Hillsboro police cadet might be for you.
What We Do
Police cadets are uniformed members of the Hillsboro Police Department. After acceptance to the program, all new police cadets must attend a 12-week academy on Saturdays. Upon graduation, cadets receive regular in-house training and complete a wide variety of tasks, including:
- Community outreach
- Teaching safety classes to small children
- Traffic control at special events
- Ride alongs with patrol officers
The program fosters a sense of community engagement through volunteerism. Cadets learn all the roles that support our community and make the Police Department function behind the scenes. Many cadets move on to careers in law enforcement. Even for those who pursue other paths, the program teaches responsible decision-making and helps them gain professional experience.
In addition to learning about the community and gaining unique police experience, cadets may also earn college scholarships through their service.
The goal of this program is to build community leaders. Once a Cadet has passed the onboarding and training phases, there is a 20 hour per month commitment associated with this program.
