Volunteers support the circulation division by assisting the Library Materials Assistants to pull pending holds for library patrons. Using a printed list, Pending Holds volunteers go on a treasure hunt to locate the book, thing, game, music, movie etc a patron has requested to pick up at a later time. Volunteers who hope to become shelvers start with learning the library shelf locations through mastering pending holds. Pending holds is a morning only opportunity, typically done before the Library is open. Pending holds volunteers must be able to read and understand the printed list, grasp, pull, lift, and place the item on a rolling cart, and push the cart back to the circulation room for further processing. All Pending Holds volunteers must attend a series of pending holds training, be assigned a mentor, and have that mentor sign off on their training before signing up for shifts on their own.
