Looking for a fun and rewarding way to make a difference this summer? Join Hillsboro Parks & Recreation as an Outpost Program Volunteer and help create safe, welcoming, and engaging experiences for local youth and families.
The Outpost Program provides free summer lunch and enrichment activities for children and teens ages 0–17. Volunteers play an important role in helping staff create positive experiences through games, crafts, science and nature activities, reading adventures, field games, and special events.
As an Outpost Program Volunteer, you may assist with:
• Leading or helping facilitate recreational activities and games
• Supporting arts, crafts, and hands-on learning opportunities
• Encouraging participation and helping create an inclusive environment
• Assisting with activity setup, cleanup, and organization
• Helping staff provide a safe and welcoming space for participants
• Building positive connections with youth and families in the community
Preferred Qualifications:
• Positive attitude and willingness to engage with youth
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Dependability and reliability
• Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities
• Experience working with children or teens is helpful but not required
Physical Requirements:
Volunteers should be comfortable standing and walking for extended periods, participating in outdoor activities, lifting and carrying supplies up to 25 pounds, and working outdoors during summer weather conditions.
Training and Support Provided:
Volunteers receive guidance from recreation staff, access to program materials and supplies, ongoing coaching and support, and safety training related to program operations.
