Beginning on June 1, volunteers host the Summer Reading Program displays at each Library, help with our summer outreach programs and help as needed during our summer family events. You'll tell patrons about the program, help patrons (generally children) select their free book, and explain how they complete their summer reading challenges. You'll need a welcoming, friendly personality, the ability to talk with all ages, explain how the program works, and enthusiastically promote reading and libraries. Shifts are two hours during open library hours seven days a week. In addition, summer reading program helpers support our outreach program by sharing information about the program outside the library. Our Library van is scheduled all over the City of Hillsboro throughout the spring and summer to promote reading and libraries. You'll help with that, and help with simple hands on activities at venues including parks, festivals, parades, or community events. Shifts vary but are generally over the lunch hour, afternoons and early evenings primarily Monday-Saturday. Our family events give you the opportunity to help with hands on fun based on the summer reading theme. You'll help set up the room, welcome patrons (parents and children usually toddler through about grade 3), facilitate hands on activities, and then help clean up. Family events primarily occur on Saturdays or Sundays with some evening or mid week events.
