Parks & Recreation: Senior Center

Who We Are

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Hillsboro Community Senior Center! We truly appreciate your desire to support our programs and the older adults in our community.

The Hillsboro Community Senior Center is dedicated to promoting and supporting recreational programs, services, and activities that enhance the well-being of adults ages 62 and older, while welcoming community members of all ages. As part of the Hillsboro Parks & Recreation team, our volunteers play a vital role in creating a welcoming, active, and connected community. Whether assisting with programs, special events, front desk services, meal programs, or other activities, volunteers help enrich the lives of those we serve every day.

We offer a variety of ongoing volunteer opportunities for individuals looking to make a meaningful and lasting impact. Because volunteer needs change throughout the year, not every role listed in the volunteer portal may be immediately available.

New Volunteers: If you have never volunteered at the Hillsboro Community Senior Center before, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator before signing up for a volunteer shift to ensure the opportunity is currently available and to complete the onboarding process.

Volunteer Coordinator:
Berenice Melson
Available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

We look forward to welcoming you to our volunteer team and thank you for helping make the Hillsboro Community Senior Center a place where everyone feels supported, engaged, and connected.

What We Do

Volunteer With Us!

We offer a variety of ongoing volunteer opportunities that are perfect for individuals looking to make a regular commitment and give back to the community. Our volunteers play an essential role in supporting the Hillsboro Community Senior Center by assisting with programs and services that enhance the lives of older adults.

Volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Picking up food donations from local grocery stores
  • Assisting with meal service
  • Setting up and cleaning up before and after programs and events
  • Greeting and assisting patrons
  • Supporting special events and recreational activities
  • And many other meaningful opportunities throughout the year

Getting Started

To begin your volunteer journey, please sign up for a Volunteer Information & Orientation Session: [Click Here.]

Volunteer Orientation is required for all new ongoing volunteers. During the session, you'll learn about:

  • Volunteer expectations and responsibilities
  • Available volunteer opportunities
  • Scheduling procedures
  • Dress code
  • Code of conduct
  • Safety guidelines
  • And other important information to help you succeed as a volunteer

A criminal background check is required for most volunteer positions and must be successfully completed before beginning your volunteer service.

Important: New volunteers must complete Volunteer Orientation and any required training with the Volunteer Coordinator before signing up for or attending a volunteer shift. Please do not register for or arrive at a volunteer shift until you have completed the onboarding process.
